The article below can hardly be called a letter. It starts out as a wish list, turns into a reality check, then transforms into a prayer. I sent this to Georgia Governor Roy Barnes, Georgia State Representative Charles Bannister, Georgia Senator Joe Burton, and the entire Georgia U.S. Congressional delegation.

This was published in the Gwinnett Daily Post on August 21, 2001.

I wish Georgia could find politicians:

  • That think for themselves,

  • That are interested in something other than their own influence and power,

  • That do not constantly help people to my money,

  • That believe people should be free to live, trade, and benefit from their own excellence, and

  • That don't think they are better than the rest of us.

Instead, Georgia is stuck with politicians:

  • That are focused on using the threat of force to give away other people's money to those who keep them in power,

  • That believe the path to prosperity is government control of all decisions,

  • That do not understand free-market principles, private property, and God given rights,

  • That cannot constitutionally justify their votes for bigger and ever more wasteful government,

  • That do not understand the injustice of using federal and state laws to do things that are immoral and illegal when I, as an individual, do them.

Please Dear God; send Georgia just a couple politicians:

  • That believe government's only just and moral function is to protect our rights, our property, and our lives equally,

  • That know your power and what you gave us, is bigger and more powerful than they are,

  • That understand the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized society, is to prevent harm to others,

  • That will shrink government and send the leeches and do-gooders home.
